Should Kristen Wiig Play Chord Overstreet's Mom?

TVLine.com is reporting that Smallville alum John Schneider has been cast as Sam's dad. As of right now, he's only booked for one episode, the same one where Chord makes his big return (episode eight)...

Glee is currently casting for Sam's mom, aka: Momma Trouty-Mouth, and we have first dibs as to who we think should grace Lima, Ohio with her presence. We've come up with some fabulous ladies who would be perfect to play the mom of a life-sized Ken doll and we need your help to decide who would be the very best...

That's right, take it all in! Sam's return is only four episodes away and rumor has it he'll be singing Bruno Mars' "The Lazy Song." However, the actress who will play his mom has not yet been unveiled. A little fishy has told us that they are looking for a blonde or brunette woman in her 40s. Hmm…

True, Glee will most likely cast a lesser-known actress for the part, but just let us dream, OK? Whoever this woman will be, we hear she might be around for more than one episode. We are so excited to finally get to meet some more parents this season (still waiting on Rachel's dads!), so we've rounded up out Top Picks to join the cast as Mrs. Evans:

Kristen Wiig: After watching her numerous years on SNL and practically choking on our Sour Patch Kids from laughter during Bridesmaids, we are confident that Wiig could take any role and spin it into comedic gold. And as an added bonus she totally looks like she could be related to Sam! (It's all in the noses.)

Kristen Wiig to guest star on Portlandia Season 2!

Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig, Penny Marshall and More to Stop by "Portlandia"

IFC announced some of the guest stars who will be visiting the show when it returns in January...

This season's guest stars include a who's who of comedy, including Penny Marshall ("Laverne and Shirley"), Jack McBrayer ("30 Rock"), Tim Robbins ("The Shawshank Redemption"), Andy Samberg ("SNL," Lonely Island), Amber Tamblyn (127 Hours, "House") and Kristen Wiig ("Bridesmaids," "SNL").

As any fan can tell you, "Portlandia" stars Fred Armisen ("SNL") and Carrie Brownstein (Wild Flag, Sleater-Kinney) as a variety of wonderfully eccentric characters including Peter and Nance, a bohemian couple caught up in the organic and local food movement; Bryce Shivers and Lisa Everesman, an arty and obsessive couple; and Toni and Candice, the formerly activist, self-involved shopkeepers of the feminist bookstore "Women and Women First."...

Here's a sneak peek of Season 2:

Read more about season 2 of Portlandia here:
http://www.ifc.com/blogs/ifc-now/2011/09/andy-samberg-kristen-wiig-penny-marshall-guest-star-season-2-portlandia.php
===========================

So this often happens where SNL folks will go start TV shows and then later invite their SNL friends to make guest appearances.

Examples...

Parks and Recreation - Starring Amy Poehler. Guest appearances by Will Forte, Fred Armisen, and Andy Samberg.

Portlandia - Starring Fred Armisen. Guest appearances by Jason Sudeikis and upcoming appearances by Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig.

30 Rock - Starring Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, and Alec Baldwin (he's hosted enough to be on SNL). Guest appearances by Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, Fred Armisen, Jason Sudeikis, Rachel Dratch, Julia-Louis Dreyfus, Bill Hader, Conan O'Brien, and Chris Parnell.

Up All Night - Starring Maya Rudolph. Guest appearances by Will Forte and Jorma Taccone.

The Mighty B - Starring Amy Poehler. Guest appearances by Kenan Thompson.

Conan - Starring Conan O'Brien. Guest appearances by Amy Poehler and Will Forte.

So Kristen Wiig needs to stop by Parks and Recreation and Up All Night to get on those two! =^)

Kristen Wiig loses her third Emmy nomination (2011 Supporting Comedy Actress)

But the good news is that she lost it to Julie Bowen of Modern Family. She hadn's won yet either.

Kristen Wiig predicted to win Emmy tonight (for a funny reason)

Check out the Emmy awards tonight to see if Kristen Wiig takes home her first Emmy!

In this Yahoo article "The 2011 Emmys: Who Will Win, Who Should Win, and Why", I saw the first time that Kristen Wiig was ever predicted to win an Emmy, and the reason is pretty funny. Observe...

==============

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Nominess: Jane Lynch ("Glee"), Betty White ("Hot in Cleveland"), Julie Bowen ("Modern Family"), Sofia Vergara ("Modern Family"), Kristen Wiig ("Saturday Night Live"), Jane Krakowski ("30 Rock")

Who Will Win: Kristen Wiig

Who Should Win: Kristen Wiig

Why: "Bridesmaids." ‘nuff said.

==============

That's kind of funny, because I've mostly seen Jane Lynch as the obvious winner in other Emmy predictions. Jane won the award for the same category last year, so I hope they give Kristen a chance! This is Kristen's third Emmy nomination for supporting actress on SNL (three in a row), and she hasn't won yet!

More explanation for this is given elsewhere in the article with statements like this:

Everyone, including Academy members, is over "Glee"

In other SNL news, they think Amy Poehler should win for Parks and Rec lead actress (but won't).

See predictions (and who should win) for all the categories here:

Check out the Emmy Awards tonight to see if Kristen gets the upset award!

Will Kristen Wiig guest star on Glee? Heather Morris thinks she should!

Heather Morris begging 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy to find a spot on show for SNL's Kristen Wiig

"Glee" cast member Heather Morris says she's begging series creator Ryan Murphy to get "Saturday Night Live" standout Kristen Wiig on the show.

"I keep telling Ryan Murphy that I'd die to work with her," Morris says in an interview in the October issue of Fitness magazine (out Tuesday). "Hopefully, he'll see this and finally make it happen!"

Morris is on the cover of the monthly and dishes on love, breast implants, dancing for Beyoncé and playing cheerleader Brittany Pierce on "Glee."

She got her TV start as a contestant dancer on Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" in 2006. She also was a dancer on a 2007 tour by Beyoncé. Morris got an entree to "Glee" when she was brought in to help with choreography.

"She's like a little kid who says, 'I don't get it,'" she says about playing Brittany. "It's funnier to me to play Brittany as not super-stupid but really innocent."

Read more info and about Heather's breast implants here...

Emmys 2011: Making a Case for Kristen Wiig

There’s a special dedication to the craft of humor that exists in a select few comedians and comic actors—what separates the good from the great is their willingness to do anything for a laugh. The great ones are willing to completely debase themselves, experiment with the absurd and the dangerous, and throw themselves entirely into a performance. With that in mind, one contemporary comedian comes immediately to mind: Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig.

Wiig’s performances are never underwhelming. They are often outlandish, regularly scene-stealing and frequently unflattering. She plays inherently dislikeable characters that are somehow impossible not to love.

Oftentimes, sketch comedians are branded with certain character types they’re forced to revive over and over again. Wiig, on the other hand, exemplifies an insuperable versatility; she plays obnoxious and bawdy as terrifically as she plays skittish and neurotic. Even her formulaic characters, such as the one-trick pony Penelope (the “topper”), are consistently enjoyable watches.

As ostentatiously silly as Wiig is, an incredible respect for her work emanates from her in every performance. She seems to hold all of her characters and skits in the same high regard; she puts her all into sketches wherein she may not even be the comedic focus. What she seems to hold in the highest esteem is the production of laughter. Whether she is the one directly inciting that laughter, or she is simply helping to set the scene for another SNL cast member’s spotlight, she is always very clearly investing all of her talent and passion into her act.

In addition to her dedication, Wiig’s comedic momentum is boundless. She handles demanding roles tirelessly. She is in many ways a physical comedian—rarely will there be an episode of Saturday Night Live in which Wiig is not challenged to bounce around the stage for one reason or another. But her subdued performances are often even stronger. With tiny glances and glimmers, Wiig delivers nuanced, unforgettable characterizations.

There is more to her characters than just a playing up of eccentricities and the wickedly irresistible tool of slapstick. Wiig's performances are more than funny; they are inviting and gripping. None of her characters' jokes or quirks would be so markedly powerful were it not for the earnest charm that the actress carries with her at all times. It’s not simply the likeability with which she was fortunate enough to be born—she is, at all times, with every piece of dialogue and action, working so admirably hard to construct a character we cannot help but fall in love with. And beyond her ambition are her talent and knowhow; she gives us everything she has. And everything she has is filled with a definitive understanding of the craft of comedy and graceful skill -- something few comedians are lucky enough to exemplify.

Wiig is the best thing Saturday Night Live has to offer today. She deserves to be remembered among the comic greats the show has spawned. Her attitude and abilities are remarkable, and her career in film and television from this point forward promises nothing but excitement.

Does Kristen Wiig want Jane Lynch to win the Emmy?

It seems that Kristen Wiig submitted her episode of SNL... to be the one where Jane Lynch hosted. Either Kristen wants Jane to win (knowing that Kristen likely won't), or that episode is really Kristen's best this season and it's just a coincidence.

The Emmys air on September 18th.

===========================

As the Emmys approach, Jane Lynch may look like the inevitable winner of best supporting comedy actress. Not only did she bag the category last year, but now she's hosting the Emmycast. But beware: She doesn't have the advantage she had last year -– she doesn't have that single powerhouse episode of "Glee" to submit to Emmy judges.

Last year, Lynch won for "The Power of Madonna," which was an impressive showcase for her skills as an actress, comedian, singer and dancer. She may have been competing in the supporting category, but she had so much screen time in that segment she seemed like a lead star.

The episode Lynch submitted this year isn't a blockbuster. "Funeral" is much more quiet and subdued as Lynch's character, Sue, mourns the loss of her sister, who had Down's Syndrome. Lynch shows a sadder and angrier side of her character and she doesn't get a chance to show off comedic skills. And she has much less screen time than she did in "The Power of Madonna."

Lynch does have another advantage this year though. She appears extensively in the episode submitted to Emmy judges by rival nominee Kristen Wiig. For some unknown reason, Wiig entered the episode of "Saturday Night Live" hosted by Lynch last fall. It's a perfect showcase for Lynch to show off her chops as a singer and comedian as she appears in a wide range of skits. It's a great complement to the dramatic performance Lynch gives on her own "Glee" submission, thus showing off her range as a performer.

Could Kristen Wiig be a potential Emmy upset?

Kristen Wiig (supporting actress in a comedy): While there is no real dark horse in the supporting actor in a comedy category, Wiig definitely has that label on the women's side. No one from "SNL" has ever won an acting Emmy in the major categories, but the "Bridesmaids" effect may come into play here once again. Besides, Wiig has been carrying the show ever since Amy Poehler left; there's got to be an award for that, right?

See other potential upsets here:

Congratulations Kristen Wiig! She went against Emmy winners Tina Fey (SNL & 30 Rock), Betty White (Mary Tyler Moore, Golden Girls, John Larroquette Show, & SNL), and Jane Lynch (Glee). So it's kind of an honor just to be nominated with the other ladies.
