Does Anna Faris think "What's Your Number?" can piggyback off of Bridesmaids?

After the success of Bridesmaids, Horrible Bosses, and Bad Teacher, Anna is pushing "What's Your Number?" to an R rating. But can Anna deliver the raunchy random and slapstick comedy that the other three films did?

(Note that these three films are unique because (A) They feature women in comedy roles, (B) They are all rated R, (C) They were all successful. Specifically Jennifer Aniston tore up her role in Horrible Bosses.)

In What’s Your Number?, Anna Faris pushes the year’s R-rated-comedy trend along by playing a crass, desperate woman who decides she can’t sleep with yet another man and must instead revisit all twenty of her exes (played by Joel McHale, Andy Samberg, Zachary Quinto, among others). She spoke with Logan Hill.



Your husband, Chris Pratt, plays an ex who thinks your character is stalking him.
I love working with my husband, although it’s terrifying. Like, if I don’t impress him with my acting skills, he’s going to fall out of love with me.


So it’s all over now?
No, thank God. He’s still with me.


You fell for Chris while making your last movie, Take Me Home Tonight. But you weren’t the only person he dated on that set?
I was proud of myself for being like, “Hey, I’m cool. I’m one of the guys. I can help you get some action!” Our friendship sort of grew, so when the movie came to an end, I really missed him.


That seems healthy.
Yes, but there are certain people we don’t bring up: the little redhead, or the really hot camera girl. But I remember them! Maybe six or seven months into dating—I don’t know—I asked Chris, “Hey, how many people have you slept with?” And he looks at me like, “That’s the dumbest question.” I was like, Oh, yeah. It is. To this day, he hasn’t told me.

Do you think Bridesmaids will let women be raunchier in films?
I think there was an idea that what women wanted out of a comedy was different from what men wanted. If I pitch an R-rated comedy, we’d have to revise it to a PG-13. Maybe I’m being optimistic, but I feel like there has been an audience shift that studios are terrified of.

Does Kristen Wiig want Jane Lynch to win the Emmy?

It seems that Kristen Wiig submitted her episode of SNL... to be the one where Jane Lynch hosted. Either Kristen wants Jane to win (knowing that Kristen likely won't), or that episode is really Kristen's best this season and it's just a coincidence.

The Emmys air on September 18th.

As the Emmys approach, Jane Lynch may look like the inevitable winner of best supporting comedy actress. Not only did she bag the category last year, but now she's hosting the Emmycast. But beware: She doesn't have the advantage she had last year -– she doesn't have that single powerhouse episode of "Glee" to submit to Emmy judges.

Last year, Lynch won for "The Power of Madonna," which was an impressive showcase for her skills as an actress, comedian, singer and dancer. She may have been competing in the supporting category, but she had so much screen time in that segment she seemed like a lead star.

The episode Lynch submitted this year isn't a blockbuster. "Funeral" is much more quiet and subdued as Lynch's character, Sue, mourns the loss of her sister, who had Down's Syndrome. Lynch shows a sadder and angrier side of her character and she doesn't get a chance to show off comedic skills. And she has much less screen time than she did in "The Power of Madonna."

Lynch does have another advantage this year though. She appears extensively in the episode submitted to Emmy judges by rival nominee Kristen Wiig. For some unknown reason, Wiig entered the episode of "Saturday Night Live" hosted by Lynch last fall. It's a perfect showcase for Lynch to show off her chops as a singer and comedian as she appears in a wide range of skits. It's a great complement to the dramatic performance Lynch gives on her own "Glee" submission, thus showing off her range as a performer.

'Bridesmaids' tops $100 million overseas

Bad girls have had a good time at the box office this summer, and not just in this country.

"Bridesmaids" and "Bad Teacher," two R-rated comedies featuring bawdy female characters that have become sleeper hits domestically, are also attracting impressive numbers of overseas moviegoers -- even though American jokes typically don't translate well abroad.

Starring Kristin Wiig as a woman trying to help her friend prepare for her wedding, "Bridesmaids" collected an additional $3.8 million this weekend in 40 foreign countries, bringing its total at the international box office to $104.8 million, according to an estimate by distributor Universal Pictures. The movie has performed best in Britain, raking in $36.5 million there. The picture has yet to open in 14 foreign territories. It is set to debut in South Korea next weekend.

"Bridesmaids" opened in the U.S. and Canada in May, where it has since collected $167.7 million.

"Bad Teacher," meanwhile, has grossed $98.1 million domestically since its launch in June and is doing equally well abroad, bringing in $98.8 million.

Could Kristen Wiig be a potential Emmy upset?

Kristen Wiig (supporting actress in a comedy): While there is no real dark horse in the supporting actor in a comedy category, Wiig definitely has that label on the women's side. No one from "SNL" has ever won an acting Emmy in the major categories, but the "Bridesmaids" effect may come into play here once again. Besides, Wiig has been carrying the show ever since Amy Poehler left; there's got to be an award for that, right?
