Kristen Wiig does Gwen Stefani in We Are the World

We Are the World Cold Open

Cold Opening: We Are The World 3

The world joins hands again in a song of support.

Jennifer Lopez ... Rihanna
Fred Armisen ... Carlos Santana
Abby Elliott ... Melissa Etheridge
Will Forte ... Willie Nelson
Bill Hader ... Eddie Vedder
Steve Higgins ... announcer (voice)
Bobby Moynihan ... David Crosby
Nasim Pedrad ... Shakira
Andy Samberg ... Josh Groban
Jenny Slate ... Lady Gaga
Jason Sudeikis ... Adam Lambert
Kenan Thompson ... Quincy Jones
Kristen Wiig ... Gwen Stefani

My favorite impressions were Kristen Wiig's Gwen Stefani and Abby Elliott's Melissa Etheridge. They both know how to truly nail the singers. Mad skills.

This is Kristen's first impression of Gwen (which is amazing, because she nailed the voice and mannerisms). The only other Gwen impression on SNL was on 05.06.2000 by Molly Shannon.

Kristen Wiig - is Ruffnut in How to Train Your Dragon

So Kristen Wiig didn't end up with the lead female role in How to Train Your Dragon, but she did end up with the #2 female role, Ruffnut.

Who is Ruffnut? This is she:

Read about her character:

Here is Kristen next to her character, Ruffnut:

And here is Kristen recording the voice for Ruffnut:

So obviously Kristen took a picture in front of a green screen on the same day that she came to perform (because she's wearing the same shirt).

How to Train Your Dragon news - trailer, short, and stills

Based on the book by Cressida Cowell of the same title, the film is set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons. It follows Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn't exactly fit in with his tribe's longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. His world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges him and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.

The latest trailer (shows the girl and a cute dragon gag at the end):

Next up is this hilarious short about different vikings training (a.k.a. losting to) their dragons:

And now new stills from Kristen Wiig's upcoming animation, How to Train Your Dragon...

Bridesmaids news

"Bridesmaids" isn't the official title and Kristen co-wrote the screenplay! It's got to be good if Kristen co-wrote it! It shoots this summer, and this is Kristen's second flick with director Paul Feig (her first was Unaccompanied Minors). Here's the scoop...

"Saturday Night Live" cast members have always been plucked for careers in the movies and for every Eddie Murphy or Adam Sandler, there have been just as many Joe Piscopo's and Molly Shannon. Big screen outings from current "SNL"-er's Andy Samberg and Will Forte have had mixed results, but now one of the show's most talented cast members is finally getting the cinematic spotlight: Kristen Wiig.

The comedy veteran first turned heads in Judd Apatow's blockbuster "Knocked Up" as a subtly snarky co-worker of Katherine Heigl. Now, Variety reports Apatow will produce Wiig's first leading role in an untitled comedy that his "Freaks and Greeks" collaborator Paul Feig will direct.

The picture is said to center around women competing to plan a friend's wedding party. Formerly titled "Bridesmaids," Wiig co-wrote the screenplay with writing partner Annie Mumolo. Universal Pictures is fast-tracking the film in hopes to shoot during Wiig's summer "SNL" hiatus.

Besides "Knocked Up," Wiig stars in the upcoming "SNL" spin-off "MacGruber" with Forte and appears in Tina Fey and Steve Carell's "Date Night." She's also had supporting roles in "Whip It," "Ghost Town," "Extract" and "Adventureland."

This is the first collaboration between Feig and Apatow since "Geeks." Feig's last cinematic directorial effort was "Unaccompanied Minors," but he's been hard at work directing episodes of "The Office," "Parks and Recreation," "Bored to Death" and "Weeds" since.

Like I mentioned earlier, Kristen was also in Feig's last film, Unaccompanied Minors, so they know that they can work well together (always a valuable thing).

Kristen Wiig is the #86 woman of 2010 (

Kristen Wiig...

is regularly compared to Lily Tomlin by SNL creator Lorne Michaels

introduced the characters Penelope, the manic Target cashier and the easily irritated film critic Aunt Linda to SNL audiences

got her start with the L.A.-based famed improv group The Groundlings

got a call from Lorne Michaels' people after the comedy star-maker saw a tape of Wiig with her improv group

in 2010, will star in four A-list films: All Good Things, Paul, Date Night, and ### Backwards

Why she's on the list:

Not many female members of the legendary sketch comedy show have gone on to have successful careers outside of SNL. In fact, someone who oddly resembled Cheri Oteri delivered us a pizza just last week. But when Kristen Wiig joined the cast in 2005, her female costars Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph were beginning to move beyond the walls of 30 Rockefeller, on their way to changing the comedic landscape in America.

Not to be outdone by her peers, Kristen Wiig quickly introduced her set of now iconic characters -- Penelope, the manic Target cashier and the easily irritated film critic Aunt Linda -- to go along with spot-on impressions of house speaker Nancy Pelosi and financial advisor Suze Orman. These days, next to Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig is the most buzzworthy cast member, appearing in almost every skit on any given episode. This must be the "girl power" thing that Geri Halliwell used to yammer on about.

With roles in Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, the roller derby comedy Whip It! and Mike Judge's Extract in 2009, Wiig proved she can hold her own on the big screen too. She’s set to star in her first dramatic role opposite Kirsten Dunst and Ryan Gosling in All Good Things in 2010, as well as the comedy Paul opposite Seth Rogen, Date Night with an all-star cast that includes Tina Fey, MacGruber with Val Kilmer and Maya Rudolph, and A## Backwards with David Cross, Amy Sedaris and Kate Hudson.

Sketch: New Senator

Jon Hamm ... Scott Brown
Fred Armisen ... Barney Frank
Will Forte ... Harry Reid
Bill Hader ... Robert Byrd
Nasim Pedrad ... Barbara Boxer
Kristen Wiig ... Nancy Pelosi

It's pretty rare that a player would do the same impression twice in the same episode in two different skits. My guess is that this was an alternative cold open they wrote, and so they decided to do both Pelosi skits.

This is Kristen's 7th portrayal of Nancy Pelosi. Here is an image of her first, from 11/11/06:

Mike and Jason Sudeikis also want you to go (Hannibal, an SNL writer, is filming these):

And Jenny Slate thinks you should go:
