We hadn't posted this yet. You can see from Kristen's one line that she's taking on the mentor role to Ellen Page's character:
They're promoting Whip It very hard now. I think they know that the opening was a bomb, so they're hoping to get some indie sales and length out of this movie. It's getting great reviews, so they're hoping that it has legs.
It was released too early in the year to get nominated for any major awards yet, so they can't hope for extra length from nomination buzz. (Many good indie films depend on it.)
